High Risk Warning
High Risk Investment
Trading foreign exchange on margin carries a high level of risk, and may not be suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to trade foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite. The possibility exists that you could sustain a loss of some or all of your initial investment and therefore you should not invest money that you cannot afford to lose. You should be aware of all the risks associated with foreign exchange trading, and seek advice from an independent financial advisor if you have any doubts.

Gapping/Volatility
When economic data releases or major news events are announced, prices may “gap” as the market reacts and adjusts to the news, i.e., prices may move dramatically in a short period of time. We aim to provide continuous liquidity while markets are open, but in extreme market conditions there may temporarily be no available liquidity. Price gaps are also common when trading resumes after a weekend or holiday. You should be aware of the following risks associated with volatile markets:
- Stop loss and take profit orders may be executed at a different price from the requested price, or the last quoted trade price at the time of order entry. Limit orders may show substantial losses shortly after being executed.
- Margin levels which looked fully adequate before the price gap may suddenly be rendered inadequate. In extreme conditions account equity could end up being negative after a forced liquidation. Margin requirements are subject to change without notice, at the sole discretion of Spartan.
- Opening prices may differ significantly from the previous close for markets (such as precious metals) which do not trade during certain hours of the trading week. Sunday’s opening prices may (and frequently do) differ from Friday’s closing prices. While the prices on the Sunday open are often near those of the Friday close, at times there may be a significant difference between the two. The market may gap if there is a significant news announcement or an economic event changing how the market views the value of a currency. Traders holding positions or orders over the weekend should be fully comfortable with the market’s potential to gap.
- Traders who fear the risk of a gap between Friday and Sunday prices is high, or that the risk of holding a position over the weekend is not otherwise appropriate for their trading style, may simply close out orders and positions before Friday’s close. It is imperative that traders who hold open positions over the weekend understand that the potential exists for major economic events and news announcements to affect the value of your underlying positions. We encourage all traders to take this into consideration before making a trading decision.
